Kinda like if Johnny Cash & June Carter adopted a freight train, gave it some acoustic instruments and a drum kit and asked Tom Waits to conduct the combo telling hm to "play something that swings." Whiskey West was formed and continues to call home the seaside village of Santa Cruz, California. A safe-haven for all musical styles, here Americana and bluegrass fans blend in perfectly with a backdrop of punk rockers, hip hoppers, even drum circlers and surfers bobbing in the blue Pacific Ocean. In the same way country sometimes tints rock music and vice versa, Whiskey West's backwoods ballads are infused with a whiff of Santa Cruz's salt air. Their set list is always a mix, too. Each time they take the stage at Moe's Alley, The Catalyst or The Crepe Place, drinking songs bump shoulders with mournful dirges and ripping dance tunes and nobody in the audience blinks.
